Nicolas Jackson: Latest Newcastle United target to face awkward reunion with Sven Botman

Nicolas Jackson to Newcastle United transfer rumours are unlikely to excite everyone at St James’ Park ahead of the summer window.

With no space at Chelsea, the centre-forward has spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Bayern Munich, and despite notching 10 goals and three assists, he has played back-up to England’s Harry Kane.

It does not appear that a full return to Stamford Bridge will be on the cards for the 24-year-old, with Joao Pedro impressing and Emanuel Emegha set to join, and clubs are taking note of his current situation.

Newcastle have joined the race for Jackson’s signature, with the striker position a huge concern for Eddie Howe, but not everyone at the club will be pushing for him to join this summer.

Nicolas Jackson has a painful history with Sven Botman

Those at St James’ Park will certainly remember the clash between Chelsea’s loanee and Sven Botman back in May 2025, a game that the Magpies won 2-0, thanks to Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Just 35 minutes into proceedings, and the Blues’ No.15 had already been given his marching orders after a VAR review, with his yellow card being upgraded for an elbow on Newcastle’s centre-back.

It was one of the more blatant sending-offs during the 2024-25 campaign, and it was only five matches later when he was shown red again, this time for a reckless challenge in the Club World Cup.

Football Insider understands that Newcastle are weighing up a move for Jackson, especially given his pricey transfer fee, with the Blues holding out for £56million.

Newcastle United have serious striker issues to solve

While it is not clear whether the Magpies will splash all of that cash on the 24-year-old, what is blatantly obvious is that Howe requires at least one new striker ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Nick Woltemade has at least shown sparks of his VfB Stuttgart days, and that’s the least supporters are expecting after the club spent almost £70million on his services last summer.

On the other hand, Newcastle already want to sell Yoane Wissa. The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries for most of the season, and when he has featured, he’s looked a shadow of his former self.

The majority of supporters will be certain that Jackson is not the right move, though, especially not for such an eye-watering fee.
