Nikolas Polster keen on Celtic move as Bhoys eye £1.75m goalkeeper swoop

Nikolas Polster is interested in the idea of a move to Celtic to become their starting goalkeeper this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Austrian side Wolfsberger are willing to cash in on the 23-year-old gloveman this summer, and the player himself is keen on the idea of a move to Celtic Park.

The Bhoys are in the market for a new first-choice option with Kasper Schmeichel set to depart, and sources have indicated that Polster is hopeful of being able to take a step up in level ahead of next term.

The youngster has kept eight clean sheets from 29 games in the Austrian Bundesliga this term, and he also has interest from Wolves on the table ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Celtic’s transfer plans for the summer are set to see them overhaul their title-winning group, and Polster could yet become one of the new faces that come in.

Celtic will only need £1.75m for Nikolas Polster deal

Celtic are keen to sign Polster this summer, and it will not be a deal that breaks the bank for them in terms of their summer spending.

The shot-stopper is set to be available for just £1.75million in the window, a price that Wolfsberger have already indicated would be enough to get a deal done, according to Sky Sports in Austria.

Polster’s 2025-26 league stats compared to other Austrian Bundesliga goalkeepers, as per Fotmob.

Polster has been one of the Austrian top-flight’s standout performers so far this term, as his tally of eight clean sheets has only been bettered by four other players.

He also ranks among the best in the division in terms of his save percentage and his goals prevented total, as he sits inside the league’s top five ‘keepers on both of those metrics.

Celtic are working hard to find a solution to their goalkeeping issues this summer, and they have already shown an interest in a number of potential candidates in recent weeks.

Postel is the latest to be linked with a move to Celtic Park, but perhaps crucially, it is also a link that he appears happy to make happen.

Bhoys take U-turn on Viljami Sinisalo

Football Insider revealed at the start of March that Sinisalo could earn Celtic’s number one spot for next season, after he showed impressive form in the early weeks after his move into the starting XI.

The club hierarchy felt that the Finland international was doing “everything he could” to force himself into the frame to take the gloves for 2026-27, although their stance has seemingly changed since then.

Sinisalo’s form appears to have caused a U-turn at Parkhead, with the club now exploring potential options to join the squad in the coming months.

Schmeichel’s departure is understood to be inevitable given that his contract is now into its final weeks, and the current intention appears to be for Sinisalo to play second fiddle once again.

As a result, there is set to be a great deal of emphasis placed on strong recruitment when it comes to nailing down the leading option for next term.
