Nottingham Forest could hijack Wolves’ move to sign forward Che Adams this summer, sources have told Football Insider

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Forest are pushing to lure Adams to the City Ground ahead of his contract at Southampton expiring later this month.

But Adams is still in negotiations over a new deal with Southampton following their promotion back to the Premier League.

O’Rourke admitted Russell Martin’s side would “love” to keep the forward this summer after he’s spent the past five years in Hampshire.

But the 27-year-old will leave St Mary’s on a free transfer at the end of this month if a deal can’t be agreed, with Forest and Wolves racing to secure his signature.

Che Adams signing could help Nottingham Forest PSR situation

Wolves were believed to be leading multiple clubs in the battle to sign Adams, but it’s now unclear where his future will lie next season.

Forest are looking to bring in another striker after scoring just 49 goals last season – the fourth-worst record in the Premier League.

Adams enjoyed an impressive campaign with Southampton after scoring 17 goals and laying on six assists in 46 appearances.

He registered 14 of those strikes in this calendar year alone to secure his place in the Scotland squad for the European Championships.

O’Rourke suggested a deal for Adams would go a long way towards helping Forest’s profit and sustainability (PSR) situation this summer as money is expected to be tight at the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are on the brink of their allowable PSR losses as they prepare to submit their accounts on 30 June.
