Paul Robinson is "surprised" Dean Henderson has agreed to join Nottingham Forest on loan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one applauded the 25-year-old for taking on the "challenge" of playing for a side who will be in a relegation battle.

As revealed by Fabrizio Romano (24 June), Henderson has agreed to move to the City Ground on a season-long loan deal.

Nottingham Forest

Discussions were held over the inclusion of a buy option but the two clubs could not come to an agreement.

Henderson struggled for game time at Old Trafford last season with David de Gea the preferred choice between the sticks.

The England international has three years remaining on his contract with the Red Devils.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the deal, Robinson said: "Henderson is a great goalkeeper who still got huge potential.

"He needs to play regularly and prove that he can do it consistently at the top level.

"I'm surprised that he has gone to Nottingham Forest. He is certainly going to be a busy boy next year. His goalkeeping will certainly be tested.

"He is going to ship goals and he is going to lose games. Forest are going to be in a relegation battle.

Man United

"Henderson has not shied away from the challenge so you have to take your hat off to him.

"Forest have done a great bit of business getting him."
