Nottingham Forest set for Arnaud Kalimuendo talks as Eintracht Frankfurt deal to be altered

Nottingham Forest are set to negotiate a reduced price for Eintracht Frankfurt to sign striker Arnaud Kalimuendo this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bundesliga side have the option to buy the loanee for £23million at the end of the season, but it is understood that they are struggling to afford that figure at the moment.

Frankfurt remain keen to sign the 24-year-old permanently after six goals in 17 games so far, and sources say that Forest are happy to sit down with them and re-negotiate that purchase option.

Kalimuendo remains down the pecking order at the City Ground, and that is not expected to change any time soon, despite the arrival of Vitor Pereira as manager.

Forest’s transfer plans are set to see them try to strengthen their group further ahead of next season, and they are happy to take the chance to cash in on the Frenchman.

Arnaud Kalimuendo re-negotiation suits all parties

Kalimuendo only joined Forest last summer, when they paid a £26m fee to sign him from Rennes, but he has quickly been discarded by the East Midlands outfit.

The frontman made just 14 appearances for the Reds in the first half of the season and scored twice in the early stages of their Europa League campaign.

They were keen to show him towards the exit door back in January, and Frankfurt obliged, and there is a need for co-operation once again this summer.

Forest see little future for the player in their ranks, and are keen to cash in as a result, while Frankfurt are desperate to keep hold of him if a reduced price can be agreed.

Kalimuendo has found regular football in the Bundesliga and is happy with his current arrangement at Frankfurt, having already started 15 league games in the second half of the season.

With that in mind, it is clear that a fresh agreement would suit all parties this summer, and Forest are prepared to engage over the idea of a new deal.

Nottingham Forest already eyeing new striker deal

Football Insider revealed last week that Forest will add at least one new striker to their squad this summer, with Pereira keen to add to his options at the top of the pitch.

The boss has sparked devastating results with a switch to a 4-4-2 system at times in recent weeks, and he is keen to keep that as an option on the table for his team to turn to next term.

However, with that in mind, Pereira wants four top-level strikers to select from, with Lorenzo Lucca expected to return to Napoli at the end of his current loan spell.

The Reds are hoping to strengthen across the board ahead of next term, but the attack has already been identified as a major area of priority.
