Nottingham Forest to accept ‘silly offer’ only for Murillo as Evangelos Marinakis signs off on terms

Nottingham Forest could lose Elliot Anderson this summer, but there will be no plans to cash in on star defender Murillo just yet.

That is according to ex-Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who says that any interested clubs will have to pay a “premium” for the Brazilian’s signature.

The 23-year-old recently put pen to paper on fresh terms at the City Ground, extending his stay until the summer of 2030, and he is likely to be seen as one of the crucial players ahead of next season.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have been credited with interest in the Forest star in recent windows, but with Evangelos Marinakis expected to back Vitor Pereira in the market, it would be a surprise to see Murillo go.

Murillo not expected to leave Nottingham Forest this summer

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Murillo won’t be sold unless a “silly” bid comes in.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “Maranakis has said that he is going to be personally handling all the transfer dealings this summer. What it does with that new contract is that they’re now in a seller’s market, should they wish to sell.

“If somebody does want to buy him, they’re going to have to pay a premium because he’s got the new contract. I think he’d be there for another season, then I think at the end of that season, they may look to cash in.

“I see Forest trying to get back to the form they were in the season before, and I think they’ve got a chance to do that. So I don’t see there being any major departures, apart from maybe Elliott Anderson.

“I don’t see Murillo going just this season, but if a silly offer comes in, of course, anybody’s for sale. I do believe this summer window, money is going to be quite tight.

“There are going to be very few buyers, and so I think that’s going to be the case in terms of Murillo. I think he’s going to be there for another season.”

Who could join Elliot Anderson through the exit doors?

Forest are resigned to losing Anderson, with Manchester United and Manchester City battling out for the England international’s future, but Pereira will want to avoid losing anyone else.

One of the most important parts of the squad that requires addressing is the goalkeeper. Matz Sels is 34 years of age and is linked with a move away, while it is uncertain whether Stefan Ortega will be handed a new deal.

In front of the shot-stoppers, Premier League clubs are eyeing up Neco Williams, and after being crowned the Reds’ Player of the Season, it is hardly a surprise to see mounting interest in the Welshman.

Players from all over the pitch are linked with exits, but if Pereira and Marinakis want to work together to push Forest back up the Premier League table, they will need as many of them as possible to stay.
