Evangelos Marinakis investing '£20m-a-month' to fund Nottingham Forest signing spree

Evangelos Marinakis is likely to have invested hundreds of millions of pounds into Nottingham Forest by the end of the summer window.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Forest owner will be putting £20million into his club each month this summer.

Oliver Glasner was an exciting hire ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, with the manager already bringing in Xaver Schlager, likely as Elliot Anderson's replacements.

Sporting CP's Ousmane Diomande appears to be next, with the Reds only just returning to the table with a second bid for full-back Givairo Read.

Despite being hit with a fine from UEFA for breaching Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) regulations, Marinakis continues to splash the cash at the City Ground.

The Greek owner continues to show plenty of ambition, and Borson believes that the amount of money being spent is the right call for the Reds.

Nottingham Forest have 'ambition' for European return

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson is impressed by the spending from Marinakis, detailing why Forest can afford to do so.

"I think they're doing the right thing. They've got the ambition. They've got an owner who's prepared to put money in," he said.

"He's put in three lots of money over the last few months. He's effectively putting in £15m-£20m-a-month right now.

"It all get a bit better once you get into season because they'll start to get TV money, but they need topping up cash-wise.

"That's what the owner is prepared to do. Once you add these, as long as you've got that security from the ownership, you've got good players, and you've made a very big profit on a player sale.

"They're not in Europe, so you don't need to worry too much about your UEFA test this season.

"Once you're there, then you can start to build a squad and the team annd try and get back into Europe. I think that's what they're doing."

What should fans know about Givairo Read?

The Reds have sent yet another bid to Feyenoord for the signing of talented right-back Read, who is just 20 years of age.

Already, he has made 54 first-team appearances for the Dutch giants since his move from FC Voldendam in February 2024, quickly becoming a key figure for the team.

Read is certainly known for his abilities in the final third, notching five goals and 10 assists in those 54 games, earning a call-up to the Netherlands Under-21s team.

In fact, three of his assists came in Feyenoord's 6-2 victory against Enschede in March 2025, matching the feat set by Wesley Sneijder in 2003.
