'It could be a good move for him' - Tottenham star to Nottingham Forest gets thumbs-up
Nottingham Forest could be the right place for Dominic Solanke to escape the pressures of playing for Tottenham Hotspur and get his career back on track.
That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The 28-year-old is reportedly being monitored by transfer chiefs at the City Ground this summer, after he endured an injury-hit season.
Solanke made just 21 appearances across all competitions amid a significant ankle problem, having struggled with his fitness in his first season at the club, too.
The striker cost £64million when he arrived from Bournemouth in 2024, and Tottenham certainly cannot expect anywhere near that much back.
His exit would potentially create space for and help fund the signing of a new striker in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Dominic Solanke tipped for Nottingham Forest move
Just two years ago, Solanke was eyed among the brightest striking prospects in England.
A potential future replacement for Harry Kane, even, having netted 19 Premier League goals in the 2023-24 season.
In the Championship, two seasons before, the England international had netted 29 goals and provided seven assists, and there was little doubting his ability.
But injuries have been cruel to Solanke, and a move to Nottingham Forest could well be what he needs to rediscover both his fitness and his form.
"I think that's, when you look where he come from, you know, he came from Bournemouth, and at this moment in time, you'd put Forest in the Bournemouth sort of group, wouldn't you," King told Football Insider.
"So it could be a good move for him because he could rebuild his career. I don't think the pressures up there are as big as they are at Tottenham.
"Again, I didn't think it was a good signing for Tottenham when they brought him in. Solanke to replace Harry Kane? Yeah, all right."
Roberto De Zerbi's comments suggest alternative solution
Tottenham have been linked with Cody Gakpo and Savinho in recent weeks, but their targets seem to be exclusive to the wing.
A striker has not yet appeared on the wanted list for Roberto De Zerbi, and in fact, he has publicly supported Solanke.
"I like him as a player, I like him as a guy. There are not many strikers better than Dom Solanke in the Premier League," the Italian said last week.
"I want to keep him, because I like him as a player, he's complete as a striker. He can attack the space, he can cover the ball, he's able with the ball to link, he's able to score 15-20 goals in Premier League."
However, another injury could change that outlook. De Zerbi and Tottenham will be well aware that Solanke cannot be relied on, and a good offer could change the situation.
