James McAtee has no plans to leave Nottingham Forest this summer and hopes to fight for his place, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old had a miserable first season at the City Ground after joining from Man City, as he played just 1018 minutes and started just two Premier League games.

As a result, a number of clubs are believed to be keeping an eye on his situation and could hand him route out of Nottingham Forest this summer.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, McAtee hopes to impress new boss Oliver Glasner and earn a place in his team.

Glasner's appointment is set to represent a fresh start for everybody at the club, and ahead of their return for pre-season testing, the attacking midfielder hopes to stick around.

That is despite growing interest from clubs both domestically and across Europe, with West Ham believed to be among his suitors this summer.

How do Nottingham Forest feel about selling James McAtee?

Football Insider revealed on 11 July that Glasner is planning to assess McAtee in pre-season rather than leaping to any immediate decisions about his future at Forest.

The newly-appointed manager was keen on McAtee while at Crystal Palace, and will now have the chance to work with him and assess his place in the starting XI.

As a result, Nottingham Forest are in no rush to move him on, and the midfielder's plans to stay and fight for his place at the City Ground mean a move is now unlikely.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It's a difficult deal to do for a number of reasons. I'm sure Oliver Glasner will be looking to cast an eye over him once he gets into Nottingham Forest.

"McAtee, although he didn't play regularly for Forest last year, I'm sure he will be hoping to have a bigger impact for them in this upcoming season.

"He will want to prove himself under a new manager and get back into the team after a disappointing season for him, rather than looking for another move away.

"I think the price tag on his head could be prohibitive as well for West Ham and their interest in him as well.

"So as I said, it looks a real difficult deal to do and I think Forest aren't actively pushing him out the door. think they'll probably want to keep him around unless there's a big offer for him."

Which clubs are interested in signing McAtee?

Despite it looking likely that McAtee will remain at Nottingham Forest, at least in the early stages of the transfer window, there are a number of clubs eyeing his situation.

West Ham are the latest club being tipped for a move following their relegation from the Premier League, and are keen to give the midfielder a chance in the second tier.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this year that Leeds United and multiple European clubs are also keen to sign McAtee.

Interest from the Whites is now believed to have faded, but multiple clubs in the Budesliga and Serie A could be tempted to move after missing out when he joined Forest.

A move away from the Premier League could prove tempting for McAtee should he decide to leave the City Ground, and clubs will continue to track his situation.
