Nottingham Forest may already 23-year-old deal as in-depth stats emerge

Nottingham Forest had to accept a point on Saturday as they drew 0-0 with Tottenham Hotspur with Liam Delap disappointing on his home debut.

The striker was awarded his first start since his record £50million move to the City Ground this summer.

There has been plenty of scepticism around the transfer, with the attacker having a woeful 2025-26 campaign with Chelsea.

Unfortunately, this trend continued on Saturday as the 23-year-old struggled to be a consistent threat up top.

Against Tottenham, Delap was extremely poor and failed to be a true focal point for the hosts’ attacks.

Now, Forest may already be regretting the signing, with the striker showing few signs that he can return to form.

How bad was Liam Delap vs Tottenham?

Unfortunately for Delap, his bad form continued against Tottenham.

According to Fotmob on 7 September, he had just one shot, which was off target, completed six passes, failed to complete his only attempted dribble, was dispossessed once and only won one out of six ground duels.

While there were positives, such as the striker creating two chances and winning four out of five aerial duels, this was not enough to rescue his performance.

As a result, Forest are already surely regretting the transfer.

There are no signs that Delap will break his goal-scoring drought anytime soon, and Forest's £50m signing already looks massively overpriced.

Could Chris Wood become Nottingham Forest’s main striker again?

Oliver Glasner’s main issue at the moment is that none of his strikers are in form.

Chris Wood has been extremely poor in all three of his appearances this season, and there is little chance that he will be the club’s number one striker again as it stands.

Igor Jesus has not been much better, with his cameo against Spurs arguably being the worst of the lot.

If Forest are to move away from the relegation zone this season, Glasner needs to find a quick fix for this problem.

If not, the manager could soon find himself on his way out of the City Ground this campaign, just months after he was appointed to the role to replace Vitor Pereira.
