'When you slow it down...' - Ex-PGMOL chief shares Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham penalty verdict

Nottingham Forest could have been awarded a penalty after Neco Williams' goal against Tottenham Hotspur was disallowed.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that he is far from convinced by the controversial decision at the City Ground.

Supporters were left absolutely baffled when Oliver Glasner's side saw their opener ruled out for handball on Saturday, 5 September.

Williams appeared to bundle the ball home following a missed clearance from Sandro Tonali, only to be accused of handling the ball on the goalline.

With the incident occuring in the 66th minute, the Tricky Trees may well have held out for all three points against Roberto De Zerbi's side.

However, the points were shared at the City Ground, and fans are now claiming that a penalty should have been awarded instead.

Nottingham Forest penalty missed in Tottenham controversy

As Tonali attempted to clear the ball away, he made clear contact with the Welshman's head, which could have easily been punished for its reckless nature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett agreed with those claims, while also slamming the initial decision to disallow the goal in the first place.

"I am still to be convinced that ball made contact with the player's hand," he explained.

"When you actually get into the detail of it, and you slow it down, it is not a clear and obvious error by the referee to award that goal.

"You don't want to strike a goal out unless you are 100 per cent certain that that ball struck the hand.

"It did not, in my opinion, so that goal should should have been allowed and i'm quite clear on that.

"What happened afterwards is there was that foul challenge and if there's a foul inside the penalty area, there needs to be an outcome."

Roberto De Zerbi already under pressure at Spurs

After splashing over £300million on transfers, many would have expected an immediate impact from those stars at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With just one point from three games, however, Spurs are sitting 17th in the Premier League table, just inside the relegation zone.

Keith Wyness told Football Insider that the spending should allow De Zerbi time to correct things, but fans are already getting impatient with the manager.

He is already the second-favourite, only behind Fulham's Alvaro Arbeloa, Premier League manager to be sacked, and it's only been three games.
