Evangelos Marinakis 'stormed out of boardroom' as Oliver Glasner faces Nottingham Forest sack threat
Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner could be sacked if results don’t improve before the November international break.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Austrian is rapidly running out of time to turn the team’s fortunes around.
Forest have won just one of their opening six Premier League games, and squandered a lead to lose 3-1 away at Crystal Palace last weekend.
Wyness believes owner Evangelos Marinakis was “personally embarrassed” by that defeat, given his sustained battles with the Eagles in recent years.
The Greek played a role in the South London outfit being demoted from the Europa League in the summer of 2025, and has also taken legal action against their fans for a banner aimed at him.
Wyness believes that Glasner’s situation at the City Ground is far from secure, especially with the pressure of a stadium redevelopment looming.
City Ground upgrade could affect Oliver Glasner’s future
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the impending upgrade to the City Ground will put even more pressure on Glasner, as Forest know that they need a successful team to fill the increased capacity.
The Scottish businessman suggested that the Reds need to drastically improve their results ahead of the November international break, or Glasner could be shown the door.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why Glasner’s future is looking bleak.
“Well, I really thought he'd have a lot longer, but I'm afraid to say maybe not, from what I'm hearing,” he said.
“We know Mr Marinakis is a man that doesn't like to see these sorts of things happening. I've got to say the next November break is actually going to be a pretty key time for him. It's much, much quicker than I ever imagined or could see happening.
“And the Palace result, obviously for him, was a personal embarrassment. I could imagine Marinakis probably stormed out of that boardroom.
“He's now got the pressure of the new stadium. That's what he's thinking in his mind, is that, what's it going to take now to get this club ticking along now, because I'm going to be making a mega investment in Nottingham. So that's what he's thinking in his mind as well.”
Glasner in three-way race to be first sacking
Wyness also told Football Insider on Tuesday that Glasner is one of three candidates to become the Premier League’s first managerial sacking of the season in the coming weeks.
The 52-year-old is under huge pressure, and Wyness believes that Fulham’s Alvaro Arbeloa and Manchester United boss Michael Carrick are also ones to “watch” in terms of sackings.
However, he feels that Arbeloa is currently the leading candidate to be sacked, although he feels that Glasner is not far behind as things stand.
The Austrian is on a hugely lucrative wage at the East Midlands outfit, but has been unable to get the team going so far.
