Oliver Glasner at risk of Nottingham Forest sack - 'Evangelos Marinakis is not happy'

Published on:

Oliver Glasner is coming under increasing pressure at Nottingham Forest after their slow start to the new season.

Forest have won just one of their six Premier League games so far, with five points on the board, and have fallen short of expectations following the change in manager.

A 3-1 defeat against Glasner's former club Crystal Palace last time out has led to growing calls for the manager's head, despite the performances showing signs of improvement.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that despite Glasner's side putting in strong displays, Evangelos Marinakis will be unhappy with their results.

The controversial owner is notoriously trigger-happy, with Forest having been through five managers in the last 12 months, and he is determined to see an upturn in results.

While there are doubts about whether Glasner will be sacked immediate, the owner is growing impatient, and there is a feeling Forest's fortunes must turn quickly.

Could Oliver Glasner be sacked by Nottingham Forest?

Brown warned Football Insider on 24 September that Glasner's position is "unstable" at Nottingham Forest as a result of what has been a slow start to life at the City Ground.

After they suffered a defeat against newly-promoted Coventry City before the break, there was optimism that time on the training ground could see their results turn.

However, despite a promising performance, the defeat against Crystal Palace has heightened the pressure on Glasner's position as Forest manager.

"Oliver Glasner is under real pressure to deliver results at Nottingham Forest," Brown told Football Insider.

"By all accounts, they were excellent against Crystal Palace and it was a performance that probably warranted a better result, but that doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

"Evangelos Marinakis is not happy with performances; he'll want to see results and wins, because ultimately that's what matters.

"It's the same with a lot of these owners in football, there seems to be no depth or nuance to their thinking, they just want to see wins on the board and if that's not happening, it's a problem.

"We know Marinakis can be trigger happy with his managers, so I wouldn't say Glasner was safe in his position at all, there's a lot of pressure on him.

"If their results don't improve quickly, then there is every chance he could be sacked and they might look elsewhere instead."

Stefan Borson reveals Nottingham Forest's expected sack compensation to Oliver Glasner

What are the finances involved in sacking Glasner?

One issue Nottingham Forest could face if they decide to pull the trigger on Glasner is the compensation fee that will be owed to the boss after such a short time in charge.

The FA Cup-winning manager put pen to paper on a three-year contract in July which is believed to have made him one of the highest-paid bosses in the Premier League.

As a result, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Forest may have to part with up to £7.5million if they decide to sack Glasner.

This comes after the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo, Sean Dyche, Vitor Pereira and Ange Postecoglou will also have been paid significant fees upon their departures from the City Ground.

While it is still considered unlikely that Glasner could face the sack at this time, particularly given the finances involved, it would take a sigificant fee to make the call.
