Oliver Glasner's Nottingham Forest position 'unstable' amid sack 'whispers'

Oliver Glasner is facing uncertainty over his future at Nottingham Forest already after a slow start to the season.

The former Crystal Palace boss has overseen just one win from his six games in charge at the City Ground, and his side are currently 13th in the Premier League table.

Alongside their disappointing league performances, most recently in a 1-0 defeat to newly-promoted Coventry City, they have also been dumped out of the Carabao Cup.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Glasner is in an "unstable" position at Nottingham Forest and results must improve quickly.

While it would be a surprise to see Glasner sacked during this three-week international break, there is a feeling that he must oversee an upturn in form upon their return.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is notoriously trigger-happy, having gone through five different managers in the last 12 months, and could soon look for a sixth.

Could Nottingham Forest sack Oliver Glasner?

Brown told Football Insider on 21 September that Glasner could be sacked by Nottingham Forest "at any moment" given the volatile nature of the ownership.

Glasner, meanwhile, also has a track record when it comes to falling out with his previous clubs and there are concerns that the two could clash if results do not improve.

While any decision is unlikely to be made imminently, given the efforts taken to bring Glasner to the City Ground, his position is far from stable as things stand.

"It's bit a bit of a concern since Glasner first went there that things could blow up," Brown told Football Insider.

"There are already whispers that things haven't quite gone right for him and that he needs to turn things around quickly.

"Nottingham Forest demand results, and we've seen in the last 12 months what happens when those results aren't good enough, so it'll be no different for Glasner.

"Obviously they won't want to sack him, they worked hard to convince him to join the club in the first place so the best route it to give him time.

"But lets say they come back from the international break and they're still losing games and performances are still poor, then how long are they going to give him?

"Knowing the way the owner operates and based on the evidence of last season, he's not exactly the patient type, he wants to see results immediately.

"It's a very unstable situation for Glasner, I'm sure he knows that better than anybody, so it's going to be one to watch after the break."

What finances would be involved with sacking Glasner?

One obstacle Nottingham Forest will face if they decide to pull the trigger on Glasner is the finances involved in potentially terminating his lengthy contract.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider in July that Glasner will land a "huge" compensation payment should Marinakis decide to make a change.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira were all stood in the dugout during the 2025-26 campaign, and are believed to have cost the club big money.

Glasner then put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the City Ground, and is being paid a reported £13million per year, making him one of the best-paid bosses in the Premier League.

As a result, there is a belief that the boss would be due a hefty fee if the club chose to part ways this early, with likely clauses included in his deal.
