Nottingham Forest's Oliver Glasner compensation revealed if Evangelos Marinakis 'fires you'

Oliver Glasner will land a huge compensation payment from his Nottingham Forest contract should Evangelos Marinakis change manager again.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that he cannot understand how the Reds continue to hire new figures.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Sean Dyche, Ange Postecoglou and Vitor Pereira were all stood in the dugout during the 2025-26 campaign, with the latter's exit coming as a surprise this summer.

Pereira led Forest to Premier League safety and a Europa League semi-final, only for Marinakis to make another change behind the scenes.

Almost immediately, Glasner was linked with a move to the City Ground after running down his contract at Crystal Palace, leaving Borson baffled.

Marinakis would have had to pay compensation for each manager or head coach departing the club, and his decisions aren't financially viable in the slightest.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has already warned Glasner about his future, suggesting that the new boss will have a high level of protection.

"It doesn't seem very efficient, that's for sure. You get them by offering the right commercial deal. Glasner, you would assume, did not envisage the great dream would be to go to Forest," he said.

"Now, maybe in the future, and it's nothing against Forest and they've got a really good team. I think they underperformed last season, given all their quality.

"But it doesn't feel like the dream move; maybe he's just paid a fortune. But ultimately, a lot of those top jobs that were available, the AC Milan's and these sorts of jobs, he didn't get them.

"It's a slightly odd one. It is strange that Marinakis is happy to pay out all this compensation. You would think there's no way these managers are taking these jobs without that level of protection.

"Just because there's a really good chance that he is going to fire you. So you would think that it's pretty clear in those contracts what the damages will be if he does fire you."

Oliver Glasner to break club record as Nottingham Forest boss

All signs point towards the Austrian being announced along the River Trent, with just a matter of time before he's on the touchline.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Glasner has already signed across the dotted line, with the deal set to see him become the highest-paid coach in the club's history.

That would certainly explain why the 51-year-old has joined the Tricky Trees, rather than holding out for a bigger European side.

He was linked with several clubs, such as Manchester United and AC Milan, but both of those jobs are unavailable, so Glasner's choices were limited this summer.
