Keith Wyness tears into 'shocking' Nottingham Forest decision: 'Marinakis doesn't care...'
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis "doesn't care" about the way he handles the managers that he brings into the club.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the treatment of Vitor Pereira in his dismissal was "shocking."
The Portuguese boss was reportedly axed just two minutes before the triggering of a potential extension clause, and was informed of his departure by email alone.
Wyness has labelled Marinakis' handling of the decision as "brutal," and has urged him to try and establish more "stability" at the City Ground moving forward.
The East Midlands outfit are eyeing a drastic improvement upon last season, when Pereira oversaw a huge upturn in form to save them from relegation in the final weeks of the season.
Oliver Glasner has already arrived as the former Wolves boss' replacement, but Wyness is adamant that the way his exit was handled has left a bitter taste.
Oliver Glasner issued warning after Nottingham Forest move
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Pereira's exit serves as a warning to Glasner and future Forest bosses as to how things can unravel at the club.
The Scottish businessman believes that the owner's involvement at the City Ground will limit the number of managers who are willing to work there.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness urged Marinakis to try to "rein in his impulses" in future.
"Everybody can draw that conclusion that it's a pretty shocking way to handle things. And it says a lot, obviously, about Marinakis and the way he handles things," he said.
"He doesn't care what people think about him. But people have got to realise this is how you could be treated, even if you do a good job. So that will dictate to a lot of people whether they want to go and work with him or not.
"However, we all know in football, there are always people who will take the job. And so, he's not going to be worried too much. It's a very brutal way to do it, and nothing's going to change.
"He didn't get the results last season, and a lot of his tampering was the reason behind him not getting the results. So he's also got to look in the mirror and decide whether this is the right way to go forward.
"He's got to look at himself, and he's got to think, 'perhaps I've got to rein in some of my impulses and try and create some sort of stability'."
Oliver Glasner's exit clause revealed
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that he is "almost certain" that Glasner's deal at Forest will include a "break clause" meaning the club won't have to pay the full compensation amount if he is sacked.
The ex-recruitment man stressed that while many people would assume the Austrian would be entitled to a "huge payout" in that scenario, that may not actually be the case.
Brown made it clear that the former Crystal Palace boss will know "exactly" what he is walking into at the City Ground, but will still back himself to have success.
Glasner transformed Palace's fortunes during his stint at Selhurst Park, and the hope is for him to have a similar impact at Forest.
