Oliver Glasner agrees Nottingham Forest exit clause as 'huge' payout on the cards

Oliver Glasner is likely to have agreed to a break clause in his Nottingham Forest contract given the finances involved in the deal.

Nottingham Forest announced that the former Crystal Palace manager had been appointed to replace Vitor Pereira earlier this week in news which initially came as a surprise.

Reports have since claimed that the Austrian has been made one of the best-paid managers in the Premier League, with a yearly salary of £13million on the table.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that things could end badly for Glasner at Forest, but the financial implications will not be as bad as they could be.

Given the money on the table for Glasner, Forest would be pushed into a "huge" payout should he be dismissed, but there are likely clauses in his contract to negate that.

Similar was seen with Pereira, who was let go due to a clause in his contract which allowed Nottingham Forest to make the decision before 30 June.

Why are there fears over Oliver Glasner's future at Forest?

Despite having only just arrived as Nottingham Forest manager, fears have grown due to both Glasner and Evangelos Marinakis being particularly volatile in their roles.

The former Crystal Palace boss fell out with the owners at Selhurst Park, having previously left both Frankfurt and Wolfsburg following disagreements with decision-makers.

Marinakis, meanwhile, has now appointed his fifth manager in 12 months, and all parties will be aware that they will have to work hard to maintain a strong relationship.

"Oliver Glasner isn't stupid, he will know exactly what he's getting into at Forest," Brown told Football Insider.

"Obviously the plan there is for him to see out his contract, bring success and trophies to Forest like he did at Palace, and help the club reach their ambitious goals.

"But as we've seen over the last 12 months, it isn't always that simple at Forest. They've now appointed their fifth manager in that time which says all you need to know.

"Glasner is on a lot of money at Forest, it's a big contract, and people always say there could be a huge payout if he is sacked at any stage.

"But I'm almost certain there will be a break clause in his contract or something which means Forest won't have to pay the full amount, but Glasner will still benefit.

"These are the things that happen behind the scenes, especially when you've got an owner like Marinakis, who can be volatile when it comes to managers.

"Glasner doesn't have the best record either, he fell out with the owners at Palace and at both of his clubs in Germany, so in that respect it's not exactly a match made in heaven.

"It'll be one to keep an eye on, but if they continue the recent trend of changing managers, it'll be interesting to see what they do financially."

What plans are being put in place for Glasner at Forest?

Shortly following his official appointment, Nottingham Forest are making plans to back Glasner, having talked up their ambitious plans in the announcement.

Plans are now being put in place for a big transfer window as they aim to turn around the form which saw them dragged into a relegation battle last season.

A number of targets are now being eyed to back Glasner, as Brown told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest could now make a move for Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Crystal Palace striker enjoys a strong relationship with Glasner, having starred in the side that lifted the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League.

He could now be available with just one year remainig on his contract, and a move to the City Ground may be on the cards as they aim to sign a new striker.
