Nottingham Forest to wait for 'familiar' manager before sacking Oliver Glasner
Nottingham Forest are likely to wait until one of their managerial targets becomes available before they make any decision to sack Oliver Glasner.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that owner Evangelos Marinakis would likely want another familiar face in the dugout.
The Greek businessman went through four managers last season, with the final appointment, Vitor Pereira, having previously worked with him at Olympiacos.
Wyness believes that Marinakis tends to prefer bringing in managers who are familiar to him and would be ready to take charge straight away.
With that in mind, he simply does not see the Reds parting company with Glasner until they have an obvious replacement waiting in the wings.
The Austrian only took charge at the City Ground in the summer, but is already under pressure after just one win from the opening six Premier League games.
Evangelos Marinakis urged to change his ways
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Marinakis has to change his ways if Forest are to make genuine progress in the coming years.
The Scottish businessman is adamant that the continual changes in the dugout will not help the club, and feels that the owner needs to show more patience.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained how events elsewhere could potentially dictate Glasner's future.
"Now if Marinakis does hire again, he tends to hire familiarity," he said.
"He tends to hire managers that he's familiar with, and you've got to look at who's available as well; he'll make up his mind as to who it would be before he thinks about firing Glasner.
"So we've got to see who might be available that he knows and who he likes, but it's bad for him and for Forest to have this continual parade of managers.
"It does nobody any good and is not the right answer to help secure his long-term legacy."
Oliver Glasner could be sacked in November
Wyness previously told Football Insider earlier this week that the upcoming November international break could be pivotal for Glasner's future.
The boardroom expert pointed towards the vast number of bosses who lose their job during breaks from league action, as clubs often view it as the ideal time to make a change.
The Reds have four fixtures between now and the next international window, but that run includes home games against both Arsenal and Manchester City.
