Nottingham Forest 'concerned' about Neco Williams after latest

Nottingham Forest are concerned about Neco Williams' recent performances after he put pen to paper on a bumper new contract.

The 25-year-old has agreed to extend his stay at the City Ground until the summer of 2030, but has since suffered a dip in form, leading to some question marks.

That coincides with a slow start to the season for the Tricky Trees, who have won just one of their opening five Premier League games and were knocked out of the League Cup.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Williams' struggles are not a "major problem" for Forest, who are going through a transitional period.

Rather than chalking up his downturn in form to having signed a new contract, it is more likely to be the result of adapting to a new style of play under Oliver Glasner.

Williams is not the only member of the Nottingham Forest squad who is taking time to adapt to the new boss' methods, but there is optimism those displays will improve.

How do Nottingham Forest feel about Neco Williams?

Brown told Football Insider on 27 August that Nottingham Forest were doing everything in their power to keep Williams despite interest from Tottenham and Man United.

Eventually, he put pen to paper on a new deal to extend his stay at the City Ground, and Forest are happy to keep him despite his inconsistent displays of late.

The Wales international is extremely highly regarded at the City Ground, both by the club and the fans, and they are backing him to turn his recent form around.

"Of course Neco Williams' performances will be a bit of a concern," Brown told Football Insider.

"Especially after he just signed that big new contract, because we've seen it with players before where they land a new deal and then they switch off and their performances suffer.

"I don't think that is the case with Williams, though, I don't think he's that type of character, and by all accounts he's a good guy.

"It's more likely to be the impact of a new manager coming in and making changes to the style of play and the way they do things at Forest, sometimes it can take time to adapt.

"So I don't think Williams' form will be a major problem, and it's not just him either, there are a few players who haven't quite been at their best.

"Forest know it might take a bit of time to adapt, it's a transitional period for them, and especially with players like Williams they will be prepared to be patient."

Is Oliver Glasner already under pressure at Forest?

As previously mentioned, Williams is not the only Nottingham Forest star who has struggled for consistency this season, with the players stilla adapting to Glasner's style.

A slow start to the season has led to questions being asked about the new manager's position, particularly following the 1-0 defeat against newly-promoted Coventry last time out.

As a result, Brown told Football Insider on 21 September that Glasner could be sacked "at any moment", and results must improve if he wants to stabilise his position.

Nottingham Forest have now won just one of their first five Premier League games this season, and were knocked out of the League Cup after a defeat against Leeds.

Trigger-happy Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was expecting more from his side's performances this season, and while it would be a surprise to see Glasner sacked, it cannot be ruled out.
