Nottingham Forest 'doing everything' to block Neco Williams joining Tottenham

Nottingham Forest are standing firm in their stance that Neco Williams is not for sale in the transfer window's closing stages.

The 25-year-old has been an important part of the club's progress in recent seasons, and is set to remain a crucial part of Oliver Glasner's ambitious plans at the City Ground.

That is despite interest from a number of top clubs in the Premier League, with Tottenham the latest to be linked with a move for the Wales international.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham are big admirers of Williams, but Nottingham Forest have no plans to let him leave.

The Tricky Trees are prepared to do everything in their power to keep hold of the full-back, and are confident that he will remain at the club beyond the 1 September deadline.

Tottenham may be forced to look elsewhere in their pursuit of defensive reinforcements as a result, but still plan to test Forest's resolve in the closing stages.

Could Tottenham make a move for Neco Williams?

Brown told Football Insider on 25 August that Tottenham are plotting a late move to sign Williams and are prepared to test Nottingham Forest's resolve in their pursuit.

The 25-year-old was a target for Spurs earlier this summer, but they opted to target other positions in their squad, and they could now return with weeks left of the window.

However, Forest have been clear about their stance since the beginning of the window, they feel the Wales international is not for sale and they will not entertain talks over an exit.

"Neco Williams is a player who is very highly thought of at Tottenham," Brown told Football Insider.

"Whether or not Nottingham Forest would be willing to sell is a different question, but Tottenham have spent a lot of money this summer, and they could look to tempt Forest.

"The problem is, I don't expect Forest will be willing to sell, so it might be very difficult for Tottenham or any other club to do a deal.

"Williams has been an important part of everything they've done over the last couple of seasons, and it looks like he's going to play a big role for them again under the new manager.

"We know how the owner there can be as well, if he doesn't want to sell, then there's almost no way of doing a deal.

"So Forest will be doing everything they can to keep their best players at the club, especially this late in the transfer window, and Williams is certainly one of those."

Which other clubs are interested in signing Williams?

Despite Nottingham Forest planning to stand firm with their stance over Williams' future, there are a number of clubs in the Premier League keeping tabs on his situation.

Tottenham are not the only interested club, with the Wales international very highly regarded among the top sides in English football.

This comes after Brown previously told Football Insider that Man United are big admirers of Williams and feel he could be the ideal option to strengthen at full-back.

Michael Carrick has been keen to improve his back line, with the addition of a new left-back high on his list, and Williams' ability to play on both sides is seen as a key asset.

The Red Devils are also assessing other candidates for the position, though, which could play into Forest's hands regarding their star player's situation.
