Nottingham Forest plan to 'back Oliver Glasner' with late signing spree

Nottingham Forest are planning to back Oliver Glasner with a flurry of new additions in the closing stages of the transfer window.

This comes after the 51-year-old explained he expects to have a slow start to the season, with late signings and delayed returns meaning they will be below their best for at least five weeks.

Glasner is notorious for trying to get business done early in transfer windows, but after voicing his frustrations, it may have to be better late than never for the boss.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that there are no doubts about Nottingham Forest's backing of Glasner, as they have ambitious plans in place.

So far, the Tricky Trees have completed the signings of four new players, most notably including Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP, who has long been admired by Glasner.

However, the boss hopes to add to his squad in key positions before the window closes, with work ongoing behind the scenes to ensure he is happy with his squad.

Why is Oliver Glasner frustrated at Nottingham Forest?

Brown told Football Insider on 17 August that Glasner is already becoming frustrated with Nottingham Forest's transfer activity as the window enters it's final stages.

Speaking to Sky Austria earlier this month, the boss confessed: "We will not be in our best condition at the beginning. We would be wizards if we could get that done within five, six weeks, or with players who might train with us for a week or two."

This echoes complaints he had at Crystal Palace, when he insisted the late arrivals of new signings meant it was impossible for the Eagles to start the season strongly.

"I expect Nottingham Forest will back Oliver Glasner," Brown told Football Insider.

"It's been the plan since they brought him in, because they did well to get him in and they'd have had to sell him on their ambitious plans for the future.

"I would be very surprised if they didn't make multiple new signings before the window closed, because we know he demands a lot in the transfer market.

"It was a big thing while he was at Palace and with the frustrations he had there, he wasn't happy with the work they did to bring in players, and Nottingham Forest won't want a repeat of that.

"There are still key areas of that squad where Glasner wants to improve, and I'm sure it's something they are working on to bring in a few more players."

Which players are on Nottingham Forest's radar?

Nottingham Forest are aiming to be busy in the closing stages of the transfer window, with a number of key positions on their radar as they aim to back Glasner.

A number of key positions have been identified as areas for improvement, with speculation linking them with a number of attacking options.

However, Football Insider revealed on 19 August that Nottingham Forest are not prioritising the addition of a new striker given the options already available to Glasner.

Instead, they hope to bring in at least one new midfielder, having so far failed to replace Elliot Anderson after his record-breaking move to Man City earlier in the window.

Sources say that a large chunk of their remaining budget is being reserved for a deal in that area of the pitch, rather than for fresh options in attack.
