Nottingham Forest will be able to land AC Milan star Youssouf Fofana for between £15million and £20m as they eye his services, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds are targeting Fofana as Oliver Glasner aims to add quality to his midfield ranks before the end of the transfer window.

He is set to be allowed to leave AC Milan in the coming weeks after Ruben Amorim ousted him from his plans for the season ahead.

Fofana has two years left on his current contract at the San Siro and will be available for a cut-price fee.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Milan are set to demand upwards of £15m for his signature as Forest and Crystal Palace circle.

Reports from France have claimed that both clubs, as well as Villarreal, have opened talks with his representatives over a potential switch.

Youssouf Fofana could join Nottingham Forest or Crystal Palace for less than £20m

Fofana, 27, has featured regularly in Ligue 1 and Serie A for Monaco and Milan in recent years, and is usually regarded as a high-energy, box-to-box midfielder.

Glasner is keen on moving for his services at a reduced cost as he looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “So you could probably get him for around £15m to £20m, I think, and that's why I think Forest are interested in Fofana.

“Obviously, we know they've lost Elliot Anderson this summer to Manchester City, so midfield is an area of the team that Oliver Glasner would like to strengthen."

Forest readying another bid to sign Lucas Bergvall

Glasner's search for new midfielders has seen Forest closely linked with signing wantaway Spurs starlet Bergvall this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi has admitted that he wants the 20-year-old to stay at Tottenham, but he remains keen to leave in search of regular game time.

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Glasner is pushing for Forest to send another offer for Bergvall after they saw an initial bid rejected earlier in the window.

They are facing competition from Newcastle, though, who have also seen an offer knocked back and are planning another bid.
