Nottingham Forest 'worried' about player who 'could get Oliver Glasner sacked'

Nottingham Forest are worried about the performances of goalkeeper Matz Sels after a slow start to the season.

The 34-year-old has been the first-choice shot-stopper at the City Ground since his arrival in 2024, but his displays so far this season could mean his position is under threat.

Oliver Glasner's side have kept just one clean sheet so far this season, and after the 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace last time out, fingers are being pointed at the goalkeeper.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Sels is one of a number of underperforming players at the City Ground and must turn his displays around quickly.

This comes amid pressure on the manager's position, as Forest have won just one of their first six Premier League games under Glasner, leading to questions about his position.

Should players like Sels continue to underperform, it will only serve to pile the pressure on the boss, and their results must take a quick upward turn to ease those concerns.

Why are Nottingham Forest concerned about Matz Sels?

Football Insider reported ahead of the Crystal Palace clash that Sels was at risk of being axed from Glasner's starting XI, and the result at Selhurst Park has done him no favours.

The goalkeeper was at fault for Coventry City's winning goal in their 1-0 victory at the City Ground, underlining what has become a worrying trend of below-par displays.

There is now every chance Sels could find himself sidelined, or potentially replaed when the transfer window opens, as Forest are beginning to grow concerned.

"So many of those Nottingham Forest players have been underperforming this season," Brown told Football Insider.

"The goalkeeper Sels, for example, has been miles off the level expected of him and I think that has been the case for a little while now, so that is going to be a worry for them.

"It's difficult to point at a moment against Crystal Palace where he might've done better, but he conceded three goals and has struggled to keep clean sheets all season.

"His performances have been inconsistent, and when the goalkeeper is struggling, it rubs off on the defenders and the rest of the squad as as well, then it becomes a problem.

"It's difficult, because immediately the finger is pointed at the manager, but it's the players' performances which decide the results and they have not been good enough.

"Ultimately, though, it's the manager who gets the blame and if his players continue to fall below his standards then there is every chance they could get him sacked."

Oliver Glasner at risk of Nottingham Forest sack - 'Evangelos Marinakis is not happy'

Could Oliver Glasner be sacked by Nottingham Forest?

Nottingham Forest's nightmare start to the season has come against a backdrop of pressure on Glasner's position, with questions already being asked of the new boss.

Forest have won just one of their six Premier League games so far, with five points on the board, and have fallen short of expectations following the change in manager.

As a result, Brown told Football Insider on 12 October that Glasner could be sacked sooner than anybody expected, with Evangelos Marinakis believed to be unhappy.

The controversial owner is notoriously trigger-happy, with Forest having been through five managers in the last 12 months, and he is determined to see an upturn in results.

While there are doubts about whether Glasner will be sacked immediately, the owner is growing impatient, and there is a feeling Forest's fortunes must turn quickly.
