Nottingham should make Arnaud Kalimuendo transfer decision after apparent U-turn

Arnaud Kalimuendo continues to face an uncertain future at Nottingham Forest despite his strong pre-season form.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals for Oliver Glasner's side since returning from his loan with Eintracht Frankfurt, with the latest coming against Bayer Leverkusen this week.

Frankfurt had hoped to keep him, but wanted to pay less than the £23million option to buy included in his loan.

Kalimuendo's displays since have pushed Nottingham Forest's asking price to £30m, and he now could even stay at the club.

It is unclear where the France international stands himself, however, with some suggestions made that he is keen to leave the City Ground this summer.

Nottingham Forest face several other uncertainties in their attack, with Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood both having entered the final year of their contracts.

Kalimuendo's first six months at Nottingham Forest were difficult, but it is clear from his time in France that he is talented.

It was the Frenchman's 18 goals in 34 games across all competitions in his final season for Rennes that convinced the Tricky Trees to part ways with £26m for him, and some of that form appeared to return in Germany.

The 24-year-old netted six goals and provided an assist in 19 appearances for Frankfurt, who were and remain keen to take him on permanently.

But there must be an acceptance at Nottingham Forest that Kalimuendo's first months at the club were spent within the uncertainty of three different managers, and that his talent may be too much to ignore.

Especially considering his form in pre-season. Across his four appearances, for the France international has scored three goals, with the last being a lovely glanced header into the bottom corner.

Kalimuendo is young, quick, physical and technically gifted and Nottingham Forest will struggle to find many more better than him if they do decide to sell.

Either way, Glasner's attack must be finalised in the coming days, with the Premier League season just a week away.

It not just the attack where Nottingham Forest continue to look uncertain.

Throughout the squad there is points of concern, with still only two players - Ousmane Diomande and Xaver Schlager - having arrived at the City Ground this summer, despite a season that almost resulted in relegation.

The attack is of particular importance, however, and Glasner has been tight-lipped on the role of Kalimuendo.

"He had a fantastic game today, not just with the goal he scored. He found very good positions between the lines," he said after a game against Notts County last month.

"The transfer market starts to heat up. We don't really know what will happen in the next few weeks - so many things can happen. Right now he is a player of Nottingham Forest and he gets the chance, like everyone else.”
