'That's his worry' - Oliver Glasner's 'biggest problem' at Nottingham Forest identified
Oliver Glasner's main concern at Nottingham Forest is keeping chaotic owner Evangelos Marinakis on side.
That is the opinion of experienced former Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The 52-year-old already finds himself under pressure at the City Ground after winning just one of his opening six games this season.
Incredibly, Marinakis sacked four managers last season - Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira.
The latter was harshly dismissed at the start of July to be replaced by Glasner, despite having guided Nottingham Forest comfortably away from relegation.
Glasner left Crystal Palace at the end of his contract in the summer, having won the FA Cup and the Conference League in his time at Selhurst Park.
'Are Nottingham Forest ever going to be top of the league?'
Marinakis' heat-of-the-moment style of sacking managers also extends to his other club, Olympiacos.
Manager Jose Luis Mendilibar was sacked earlier this month after just seven games of the new season, despite leading his team to the league and cup double just last year.
Speaking to Football Insider, King said: "Glasner is under pressure because they're not top of the league. Well, are Nottingham Forest ever going to be top of the league?
"It's the same situation at Crystal Palace. There's been stuff there that [Steve] Parish is already fed up with the new manager [Pierre Sage] he brought in.
"You have to see how they're going to settle. Glasner's biggest problem is not Forest, it's the owner. That's going to be his biggest worry.
"Who would take over? I don't think Eddie Howe would go there. You're talking about managers here who have very good compensation packages.
"Vast sums of money these managers have received. Who's to blame for that - the manager or the people running the football club? For me, it's the people running the football club.
"Look at Sean Dyche. He did a decent job. There's no consistency in the owner at all. He honestly thinks he's going to win the Premier League and they won't win the Premier League as long as he's in charge. He doesn't give anybody a chance."
What has Oliver Glasner said about Evangelos Marinakis?
While Glasner has spoken positively about Marinakis, he will be well aware just how quickly his mind can change.
"They contacted me all the time and I always said no. I said to him [Marinakis], honestly, that I didn’t consider Nottingham Forest," he said in August.
“You don’t have European football and I’m used to playing European football and like to play European football – just winning the Conference League, winning the Europa League, playing in the Champions League.
"But then I had a more detailed look and there are two reasons why I changed my mind and I told him. Number one is I think there is more potential in the squad than they have shown.
"And number two is you, it’s your ambition because I am very ambitious. We had a really fantastic dinner and spoke about everything. I said to Mr Marinakis, and to everyone, that it shouldn’t be the goal to play European football once. We don’t want to be a one-hit wonder.”
