Thomas Tuchel has 'egg on his face' from Morgan Gibbs-White
Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White had certainly done enough to be included in Thomas Tuchel's initial England squad.
That is the opinion of former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The 26-year-old was originally snubbed, but has now been called up for the upcoming Nations League fixtures alongside James Garner after several players dropped out.
It was a shock to many that Gibbs-White was not included in Tuchel's World Cup squad in the summer, after he had scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in a weak Nottingham Forest team.
The midfielder has started this season in fine fashion once more, and has now finally been rewarded for his efforts.
It has been suspected that Gibbs-White may well have to leave Nottingham Forest in an upcoming transfer window to receive England recognition, but he will hope to establish himself in the team this season.
'Morgan Gibbs-White certainly did enough to be considered'
England ultimately lacked that extra edge in the final third when they were knocked out of the World Cup semi-final by Argentina in the summer.
Gibbs-White may well have brought that extra factor, as he does so often for Nottingham Forest.
The 26-year-old has waited a long time for his chance, and now finally has an opportunity to prove his readiness to Tuchel.
"Tuchel looks at every player and players who are doing well, or certainly showing they're doing well, he tends to look at them and maybe introduce them in the England squad," King told Football Insider.
He continued: "It's a little bit egg on the face of the England manager, really. He didn't include Garner in the first squad.
"He didn't include Gibbs-White for some reason and then they call them in and, I think Gibbs-White certainly did enough in the opening month of the season to certainly be considered. He obviously has been considered because he'd been brought in now."
What has Thomas Tuchel said about Gibbs-White?
Tuchel's original squad had Jude Bellingham, Eberechi Eze, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers as his potential number 10s.
While it is hard to argue with many of those, it is difficult to understand why Eze, who has struggled for minutes with Arsenal, had been selected over Gibbs-White.
"It makes no sense to nominate three, four, five, number 10s. It just does not help anyone," Tuchel said last week when asked to explain the Nottingham Forest man's exclusion.
"We can see the form that Morgan is in and he ended the season very, very strongly and was the key player for Forest to not be relegated. We can see him stepping up now.”
