Tottenham star tipped to be sold in part-exchange for Morgan Gibbs-White - 'there's a deal to be done'

Lucas Bergvall could be sold to Nottingham Forest as part of a deal that would see Tottenham Hotspur sign Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

The sensational part-exchange deal is firmly on the cards according to former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 20-year-old is of interest to the Tricky Trees, who have already had a bid rejected for him and are expected to offer £45million.

Tottenham's interest in Gibbs-White dates back to last summer, when they triggered a release clause in his contract but ultimately failed to sign him.

The 26-year-old could be back on the market, however, with just two years remaining on his contract at Nottingham Forest.

Should the parties see the mutual benefit, a swap deal could be possible, although Newcastle United's interest in Bergvall could complicate matters.

Bryan King hints at potential Morgan Gibbs-White deal

When Tottenham attempted to sign Gibbs-White last summer, the midfielder was coming off the back of a season in which he'd scored seven Premier League goals and provided eight assists.

The 26-year-old was playing for a better team - one that finished seventh - only making what he did last season even more impressive.

Gibbs-White scored 18 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, in a staggeringly good campaign.

Should Tottenham return for him this summer, however, they will find an equally difficult negotiation, though Bergvall could be a handy tool.

"There's a deal there with Bergvall, isn't there? If he went to Forest. I think it's certainly doable. If Forest fancy Bergvall and Gibbs-White wants to leave, and the offer's right, I could see it happening," King told Football Insider.

"There again, you know, it comes down to loyalty again, doesn't it? He signed a new contract. Things didn't work out. They're not in Europe. I think it's going to be a tough year for Forest.

"They'll be in a transitional year, it's whether the new manager fancies him and maybe the new manager fancies Bergvall. There's a deal to be done there, if there's going to be a deal."

Where would Gibb-White fit at Tottenham?

Should Gibbs-White arrive at Tottenham, he will undoubtedly be entering what has become a fairly congested squad.

James Maddison, Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski all occupy his favoured position, but the latter two are injured and have shown no signs of a quick return, while the former has just returned from a long-term injury of his own.

Gibbs-White can also play on the right of the attack, where Tottenham are short in options.

Ultimately, when you sign a player of the 26-year-old's quality, you sign a player capable of making an impact anywhere on the pitch.
