Feyenoord's latest move suggests Nottingham Forest's Givairo Read deal is done - verdict

Nottingham Forest are surely just days away from having Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read within their clutches.

The East Midlands outfit have been chasing the signature of the Netherlands U21 international in recent weeks, and have already seen several offers knocked back.

They have been battling against interest from Manchester City, but it is the Reds who have now taken the initiative in their pursuit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest have submitted a bid totalling just shy of £18million for the full-back, with negotiations still ongoing.

Read is understood to have already given the "green light" on a move to the City Ground, but Feyenoord have shown resistance so far.

However, after Forest's latest bid for the 20-year-old, it seems that Feyenoord are getting ready to succumb to their interest and sanction a sale.

Read is tipped to have a huge future ahead of him, and has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs in recent months.

The starlet notched one goal and three assists from just 16 Eredivisie games last term, and already has experience in both the Champions League and Europa League.

Feyenoord have fought against Forest's attempts to sign him so far, but there are now signs that they may be preparing to give up.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Dutch giants have now identified OH Leuven's Davis Opoku as a "leading" candidate to replace Read.

The fact that Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side are already lining up their replacement certainly suggests that they feel the writing is on the wall with Read.

Forest are still at the negotiating table with Feyenoord, but they are surely now one step closer to a deal, with the selling club seemingly resigned to losing their star.

Nottingham Forest aiming to buy 'three more players'

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider last week that he expects Forest to buy "three more players" before the end of the transfer window.

Xaver Schlager currently stands as the Reds' only summer addition, and they are yet to spend a penny, with the midfielder arriving on a free from RB Leipzig.

However, Borson expects some big-money business to be just around the corner, with owner Evangelos Marinakis accustomed to spending a "fortune" on players each summer.

Forest are closing in on a £34m move for Ousmane Diomande from Sporting, and now it seems that Read is increasingly likely to follow him through the door.
