Nottingham Forest agree Gustavo Sa buy-to-loan deal - report
Nottingham Forest look set to complete the signing of rising star Gustavo Sa from Famalicao over the coming days.
Reports have indicated that the 21-year-old attacking midfielder will move to the City Ground for £17.1million.
From here, the youngster is then expected to be loaned out to Olympiacos for the rest of the 2026-27 campaign.
Sa has been one of the top upcoming talents in Portugal for years, and helped Famalicao finish fifth in the top-flight last season.
This talent has long been recognised by many top figures in the Iberian nation, including former Portugal manager Roberto Martinez.
The 53-year-old was quick to highlight back in 2024 the potential he feels that the youngster has.
Roberto Martinez: Gustavo Sa has a lot of ability
Sa’s potential is well documented in Portugal.
The youngster is the youngest-ever player to reach 100 appearances in the Portuguese top-flight at 21 years, 3 months and 24 days and has been a regular at Famalicao since the 2022-23 campaign.
As a result, Martinez was quick to pick up on the potential the attacking midfielder has and admitted that the youngster has plenty of ability.
On 17 January 2024, he told Record: "I remember that, exactly one year ago, 12 months ago, Gustavo was here beside me at the press conference. He is a witness to the confidence I have in him, but he knows that this is not enough.
“Considering the level he can reach, this is not enough. The demands are very high at all times, and I make a point of having several conversations with him about this because I recognise that he has a lot of ability that he hasn't yet shown out there.
“Then, things will naturally follow. He knows what he has to work on, and I know he wants to reach other clubs and even higher levels than this one."
This will no doubt excite Nottingham Forest fans, as it shows that the former Portugal manager was aware of the youngster’s talent back in early 2024.
Therefore, given that he has only improved further since then, Sa could go on to play a big part at the City Ground in years to come.
As a result, many will now be hoping that O Jogo’s report about the youngster moving to Forest is now correct.
Who could Nottingham Forest sign next?
Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Chelsea flop Liam Delap in recent days.
The striker has had a torrid time since moving to Stamford Bridge last season, and has only netted once in the Premier League.
However, Forest may now be tempted to give the 23-year-old a chance to resurrect his career at the City Ground.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who Oliver Glasner will look to buy going into the final weeks of the transfer window.
