Nottingham Forest are making first transfer blunder of the summer after Anan Khalaili 'update'
Nottingham Forest are set to make their first transfer blunder of the window as they have seemingly moved on to Anan Khalaili as their new right wing-back target.
Reports emerged on Tuesday that the Tricky Trees have made a £17.1million offer to sign the Union St Gilloise ace.
The Belgian club have since rejected his proposal for the 21-year-old, with the club previously accepting a £24m bid from Inter Milan this summer before the transfer collapsed.
It has been clear for several weeks that Oliver Glasner wants to add another right wing-back to his squad this summer to provide extra competition.
Previously, the club had been chasing Givairo Read, but the club have now seemingly moved on from the Feyenoord youngster.
This would be a massive mistake and could prove to be the first big blunder of the window for Forest.
Nottingham Forest should prioritise bringing in Givairo Read over Anan Khalaili
While it is clear that Khalaili is a talent in Belgium, it is extremely hard to judge the Israel international based on his performances in the Belgian Pro League.
In recent years, many players have moved to the Premier League from the Lowland nation and heavily flopped, and this could happen again if Forest submit another bid after The Athletic's report.
One of the best examples was Tolu Arokodare, who won the Golden Boot in the 2024-25 campaign after he netted 21 goals in the division for Genk.
This earned him a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer, and he went on to score three Premier League goals in 33 appearances, and was one of their worst performers as they were relegated.
In comparison, the Eredivisie is usually far more reliable and has seen multiple talents emerge from the league.
Therefore, with both players being valued at around the same price, Forest should continue to focus on bringing Read to the City Ground rather than Khalaili this summer.
What other positions are Nottingham Forest looking to reinforce?
Recent reports have also linked Forest to Liam Delap.
The Chelsea striker flopped heavily last season after he only scored once for the Blues.
However, the Tricky Trees are reportedly interested in the 23-year-old, who was once fantastic at Ipswich Town.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen who Forest look to bring into the club over the coming weeks.
