Sources: Newcastle well placed to agree Lucas Bergvall deal after Nottingham Forest latest
Newcastle United can take advantage of Nottingham Forest’s interest in Tijjani Reijnders to win the race for Lucas Bergvall this summer.
The Manchester City attacking midfielder is reportedly a target for the Tricky Trees this transfer window.
£55million could prove to be enough to secure the signing of the Netherlands international just a year after he moved to the Etihad.
Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle remain keen on Bergvall after holding talks to sign him earlier in the window and having a bid rejected.
They have yet to agree a fee for the Tottenham Hotspur star but the deal remains alive going into the final four weeks of the window.
Bergvall appears almost certain to complete a move this summer after telling Spurs of his intention to leave at the end of last season.
Forest could be working on Reijnders as an alternative to Bergvall, regardless of which provides Newcastle with the opportunity to strike a deal and get the signing over the line.

It has been clear throughout the transfer window that Forest and Newcastle are the frontrunners for Bergvall.
Both clubs have seen bids rejected by Tottenham for the youngster, despite being open to a sale for the right price.
However, Forest’s desire to sign Bergvall appears to be waning after Fabrizio Romano’s report on their interest in Reijnders.
Therefore, while the East Midlands club is looking at alternatives, Newcastle have a perfect chance to complete a deal for the midfielder without initiating a potential bidding war.
This is reinforced by the fact that a deal for Bruno Guimaraes to move to Arsenal is now thought to be close, which will add even more money to the Magpies’ budget.

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Newcastle will consider sanctioning a loan move for goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen this summer.
The youngster only moved to St James’ Park this transfer window from Reims.
However, the arrival of Lukas Hornicek from Braga has pushed the goalkeeper further down the pecking order.
The Magpies do view Jaouen as a long-term project, with the goalkeeper having plenty of potential.
However, if Nick Pope is not sold, he could then be sent out on loan in order to get valuable experience.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen what Newcastle do in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, with signings no doubt needed at the club.
