Betting update: Everton clear favourites to sign 27-goal striker topping the charts
By Alex Stevens
Everton are the clear bookmakers’ favourites to sign Leeds striker Chris Wood in the summer transfer window.
Bet Victor price the Merseyside giants at 4/1 to land Wood before the 3 September cut-off, 24 hours after Football Insider revealed they are keeping close tabs on the Championship’s leading scorer.
The bookies make Everton half the price to capture the New Zealand international of Premier League rivals West Ham and Stoke, who are both 8/1.
Leicester, Newcastle (both (12/1), Southampton and Bournemouth (14/1) are more distant in the betting to sign Wood, whose prolific form has caught the eyes scouts in the top flight.
Wood, 25, is rated in the £15million bracket by Leeds on the back of a season in which he has spearheaded their promotion push with 24 league goals from 36 matches, supplemented by three cup strikes to lift his total tally to 27 from 40 appearances.

The 46-times international joined Leeds from Leicester in the summer of 2015 for £3million and has a contract that runs until 2019.
But the fourth-placed Championship club could be forced to fend off interest in Wood regardless of whether they secure promotion back to the Premier League after 13 years in the lower leagues.
Everton are expected to be in the market for new forwards this summer amid considerable doubt over the future of Premier League top scorer Romelu Lukaku, while his forward teammates Enner Valencia, Arouna Kone and Gerard Deulofeu are all set to leave Goodison Park.
In other Leeds transfer news, the Yorkshire giants are in shock talks to sign a Liverpool attacking player.
