'Oh my word' - Exclusive: Pundit claims 'Unreal' Liverpool mainstay best in the world

Noel Whelan claims that Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best right-back in the world after his meteoric rise at Anfield.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 21-year-old has got absolutely everything in his locker to be a success.

Alexander-Arnold has been a mainstay for Jurgen Klopp across all competitions this season, his appearance against Wolves on Sunday his 18th start in the club’s 19 Premier League games.

Whelan says that the England international, along with left-back Andrew Robertson, has not only the physical and technical abilities to tear the opposition apart but the mental strength too.

Whelan told Football Insider: “He’s unreal. He is absolutely unreal, there’s no better full-back in the Premier League or in the world than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“Their two full-backs at Liverpool are the best at what they do defensively but going forward, oh my word, they will take apart most other full-backs because of their strength, because of their power, because of their skill, because of their desire to get forward and create chances.

“They’re just all-round full-backs.”

Alexander-Arnold has already played 28 times across all competitions for the Reds, including playing the full 120 minutes in the Club World Cup final win over Flamengo.

He scored his second goal of the season against Leicester City on Boxing Day, a game in which he also contributed two assists on the way to a convincing 4-0 win over Brendan Rodgers’ men.

In other Liverpool news, Darren Bent has been left fearing over a 28-year-old at Anfield after an official update from the Reds.
