Outperforming Hourihane: This underrated Aston Villa ace has been the best January signing
COMMENT by Amir Mir
When Neil Taylor walked through the doors of Bodymoor Heath in January, many eyebrows were raised about the deal that Aston Villa had just made for the defender.
The 28-year-old ace was involved in a swap deal with versatile attacker Jordan Ayew, with Villa receiving cash on top of the transfer.
At the time, many fans didn’t like the deal that was made by the club, with some questioning why Villa would get rid of an attacking option when they already had little to offer going forward.
However, left-back Taylor is beginning to prove the doubters wrong and he is now showing why he is arguably the best January signing for the Midlands outfit.
Playmaker Conor Hourihane would be a name mentioned by many supporters because of the goal scoring threat and much-needed creativity he has brought to the middle of the park.

But, the underrated Taylor has proven to be a masterstroke of a signing by manager Steve Bruce because he has added solidity to that backline.
Jordan Amavi was the player who was previously playing in that position, but despite his qualities going forward, he was too inconsistent and weak when defending.
Taylor has changed that in recent weeks and is now beginning to fit into Bruce’s system which will be looking to earn promotion to the Premier League next term.
In other Aston Villa news, fans have urged Tony Xia to bring back this 24-year-old flop after his comments.
