Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson lost his mind over Samuel Saiz’s brilliant display in the 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Monday afternoon.
Saiz, 26, was back in the Leeds starting line-up after suffering a calf injury prior to the festive period and did not waste any time in getting the home fans on their feet with a scintillating display.
In the second half, the Spanish player really found the peak of his form.
The ex-Huesca man went on a brilliant run from his own half before playing in Kemar Roofe, who should have really put the Yorkshire giants ahead with an effort that thundered off the crossbar.
Saiz was again involved when he fed a beautifully weighted ball into Pablo Hernandez in the last 10 minutes, however Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith did well to deny the winger.
Sky Sports pundit Grayson, who covered the game on Sky Sports Football on New Year’s Day, was blown away by the tricky playmaker against Nottingham Forest, and dubbed him as being one of the top talents in the Championship.
“Saiz is an outstanding player. He is one of the better players in the Championship,” Grayson said on Sky Sports Football on Monday afternoon at 5:00PM.
The former Sunderland and Leeds manager later added: “I think he was Leeds’ best player today and probably has been all season.
“I think he is loved by this crowd here because he makes things happen, he gets in little positions, he can run at you, draws fouls off defenders. Very clever player.
“He has got the pace to run away from midfield players and defenders, but then he has the composure to find a pass and that is what hallmarks what very good players are.”
Saiz has been key to Thomas Christiansen’s side this season, making 24 appearances across all competitions.
He has scored nine goals and supplied five assists in the process.
In other Leeds United news, Grayson has claimed who the Whites must sign in the January transfer window.
