Simon Grayson has claimed that Leeds United have the capability to challenge for promotion from the Championship this season, but says that they need to be active in the January transfer window.
Thomas Christiansen has been very vague about the clubs’ transfer plans for this month when he has been asked, but now that the window is officially open, Leeds fans are waiting with bated breath to see how the Yorkshire giants approach the next few weeks.
Former Leeds manager Grayson, who was working as a Sky Sports pundit on New Years’ Day in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest, claims that his old side need two of three more players to transform themselves into a team that can really push for a spot in next season’s Premier League.
“They’re a few players short of being a team that can [challenge for promotion],” he said Sky Sports Football at 17:15pm on Monday afternoon.
“I think Leeds need two or three more players just to get them up there.”
He added that one of the players that the Whites must sign is a midfielder: “They probably need another midfield player, when you look at them they’re all similar.”
After a change of ownership and management at Elland Road in the summer, Leeds underwent a huge change as they pretty much overhauled the entire first-team that Garry Monk was in charge of as they finished seven last time out.
Now, the Whites are fifth in the Championship and look like solid contenders to finish in the top six.
Tuesday’s draw against Forest keeps Leeds in the promotion mix.
Wolves are miles ahead at the top of the table but the second-placed spot is definitely up for grabs with Derby, Bristol City, Cardiff and Leeds all within six points of each other.
In other Leeds United news, fans have slammed this “garbage” player for his performance against Forest.
