Leeds United “need” to sign players who will strengthen their starting XI – and Rodrigo De Paul fits the bill.
That is according to ex-Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed that Leeds are “confident” of securing a deal for De Paul at a fee lower than the £37million they were quoted last summer.
In the latest twist in the De Paul Saga, Italian outlet FC Inter News report that Inter Milan, AC Milan and Liverpool have all stepped up their interest in the midfielder.
The 26-year-old is highly rated and has netted nine times and laid on 10 assists in 34 Serie A matches for Udinese in 2020-21.
And Kenny claims that Leeds’ number one priority must be to sign players who can walk into the first team.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “They’ve got to strengthen, definitely. You’ve got to strengthen the starting XI.
“Leeds needs to sign, not squad players, but players who are playing in that team every week.
“They need to be even stronger than they have been this season. De Paul is one who will be pushing that team and getting in the starting XI.
“I’m sure they’re looking to strengthen and consolidate what they have done this season and he could be massive and a massive part of that.”
Leeds are currently 10th in the Premier League standings.
They face Burnley in their next match on Saturday before rounding off their season with games against Southampton and West Brom.
