Ray Parlour admits it hurts to concede that Tottenham are currently better than Arsenal as the “league doesn’t lie.”
In an interview with AskFans, the Arsenal legend was speaking ahead of the two sides meeting on November 18 in the north London derby when he revealed he can’t deny Spurs’ superiority.
He said: “It does hurt, I must admit. I have lots of people ask me ‘Who is the best side, Tottenham or Arsenal?’ and I have to say the league doesn’t lie.”
After 11 games played, Tottenham are third in the Premier League with 23 points, four points ahead of Arsenal in sixth.
Spurs can increase the gap between the two sides to seven points if they are victorious when the two sides meet at the Emirates.
After years of always finishing behind their bitter rivals in the league, last season Tottenham were able to finish three places higher and with 11 more points than the Gunners.
This came on the back of almost achieving a higher league finish than Arsenal in the 2015/2016 season, only to end up just one point behind them in third.
The two sides met three times last season, with no clear winning emerging. Spurs defeated Arsenal 2-1 when they hosted their league fixture, but were only able to earn a 1-1 draw on their league visit to the Emirates.
The Gunners got their victory over Tottenham last season when they met in the third round of the League Cup, defeating Spurs 2-1.
