Paul Merson has predicted a comfortable Newcastle win for their clash against Bristol City this weekend.
The Magpies are currently gearing up for a St. James’ Park clash where they will take on a Bristol City team sat just two points above the drop zone.
With both teams having contrasting fortunes in the English second tier the Toon are going into the side as big favourites and Merson has agreed, plucking for a 3-0 win for the north east giants.
“I’ve gone Newcastle win,” started Merson speaking on Friday morning’s Sky Sports News.
“I’ve gone quite easily, I mean Bristol City have completely hit a brick wall. The problem with Newcastle is that we’ve seen Blackburn go up when they were near the bottom and get a result, but as long as they’re focused I don’t see anything but a Newcastle win, especially with Tammy Abraham going back to Chelsea for treatment, I can’t see them hurting Newcastle.”
Newcastle are eyeing an instant return to the Premier League as they sit atop the Championship table, one point clear of second placed Brighton and five of Huddersfield.
They have won three of their last four matches in the league and they will be looking to continue them impressive form against a Robins team who have won just one of their last 13 league matches.
When the two sides last met in August Newcastle scraped a 1-0 victory through a Dwight Gayle strike.
But, they will be hoping for a much more comfortable outcome this time around as they look to go clear of Brighton who will be facing fourth placed Reading.
