Paul Walsh has claimed Tottenham are missing a player like Chelsea ace N’Golo Kante as they look to close in on Antonio Conte’s side at the top of the Premier League.
Kante, 26, has proved his importance in his first two seasons in the Premier League, after starring in Leicester’s 2015-16 title-winning campaign before moving to Chelsea this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports News’ Premier League Daily Show on Monday, former Spurs striker Walsh claimed Spurs are in need of a player like Kante if they want to challenge for the title.
“Tottenham need to sign a player like N’Golo Kante,” Walsh said. “He has shown how important a player like that can be for both Leicester and Chelsea.
“However, you’ve got to be realistic in who Spurs can actually enter the transfer market for and sign. But a Kante-like player is what they’re missing at the moment.”
Kante cost Chelsea £32million in the summer, after the France international shone in the middle of the park for the Foxes in their spectacular campaign last season.
The former Caen midfielder is known for his lung-busting efforts in midfield that sees him cover a huge amount of ground and make multiple interceptions and tackles.
Currently plying their trade in the middle of the park for Spurs at the moment are Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and crocked academy product Harry Winks.
Spurs are likely to enter the transfer market in the summer after a number of their summer recruits have failed to have an impact, namely Vincent Janssen, Moussa Sissoko and Georges N’Koudou.
Pochettino next takes to the dugout on Saturday, as he looks to reduce the deficit between Spurs and Chelsea to four points with a win against Burnley at home.
In other Tottenham news, Steve Cook has delivered a warning to Spurs ahead of Saturday’s clash against the Cherries.
