Darren Bent has tipped Southampton to re-sign former star Adam Lallana on a free transfer this summer as he looks set to leave Liverpool.

The former Aston Villa and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists a return to St Mary’s could be a fantastic move for both player and club after six years away.

The Times report that the 31-year-old is in high demand ahead of the summer, when his contract comes to an end and he will be free to move for nothing.

With the midfielder set to have the pick of where he could move ahead of next season, Bent says he could see him moving back to the south coast in a bid to reignite his career after what has been a stuttering couple of months.

Asked where he could see Lallana next, Bent told Football Insider: “Southampton, I could see him going back there. I can see him going back to Southampton.

“The one that everyone says whenever you talk about a player dropping down is Everton but that’s not going to happen. Southampton would be perfect.

“He needs to go and start playing again regularly. He’s been a great servant for Liverpool, he’s won some great trophies there but he’s spent way too much time for someone of his ability not playing games.”

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl

Lallana played 261 times for Southampton during his first spell at the club, having come through the youth ranks on the south coast.

He has gone on to feature 175 times for Liverpool in five-and-a-half years at Anfield.
