Kevin Phillips has slammed Moise Kean as a “huge disappointment” since signing for Everton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England striker claimed the Italy international, 19, has failed to live up to his reputation since signing last summer for a fee rising to £27million.
Kean has scored only one goal from 23 matches, although there has been something of an improvement since Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager in December.
The teenage forward scored his first Premier League goal in the recent 2-2 draw against Newcastle United and also supplied an assist in the barnstorming 3-2 win over Watford last weekend.
Kean has started three league games since his countryman Ancelotti took the reins, although he was an unused sub for today’s 3-1 win against Crystal Palace.
Phillips told Football Insider: “Well Ancelotti’s put him on in most games, hasn’t he? Again, like Joelinton, like Wesley – all similar kind of players that really haven’t settled in the Premier League and it’s hard to see why not because they’ve all come with reputations.
“Kean’s certainly a player at the minute struggling to get in the team and make an impact. He’s been a huge disappointment given the fee.
“If anyone is going to get the best out of him then it’s Ancelotti. There’s no one better that can do it than him.
“Kean needs improve a lot in areas of his game if he is to be a success in the Premier League.”
Kean joined Everton from Juventus, where he emerged from their youth ranks to score eight goals from 21 matches before his transfer.
He has also been capped three times by Italy and scored twice for the national team.
