Kevin Phillips has tipped Max Aarons to become a star if he signs for Tottenham this summer.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was reacting to the latest update on Aarons’ future.
Last week, Football Insider revealed Spurs club have reignited their interest in Aarons after making a new right-back one of their main priorities this summer.
It is understood a fee of £30million will be enough to prize Aarons, 21, away from Carrow Road after helping the club achieve promotion.
The defender only failed to start one match as Norwich romped to the Championship title.
Phillips claims Aarons can thrive at Tottenham but the move depends on if the new Spurs boss wants him.
“He’s a great player,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“Any of the clubs who go for him and secure his services will know they’ve got a good young player who will perform for years.
“He would be a good signing. It depends on who comes in as manager and whether they want him.
“But if they sign him, the club would be securing the services of an exciting young player who will only get better and better.”
Ryan Mason remains in charge of the Spurs first team after the recent sacking of Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham suffered an away defeat against Leeds on Saturday in what is a significant blow to the club’s hopes of finishing in the top four.
