Phillips Exclusive: Everton tipped for top-4 finish after big Athletic transfer reveal

Everton could finish in the top-four if they sign Real Madrid attacker Isco in January, according to Kevin Phillips.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner claimed the 28-year-old would be “another top-class signing” from the Merseyside club.

The Athletic claimed on Tuesday that a move for the Spain international in the January window “hinges on the financials”.

Isco is reported to be surplus to requirements in Madrid and with Carlo Ancelotti a big admirer of the player the transfer appears firmly within the realms of possibility in 2021.

The playmaker, who worked with Ancelotti at the Bernabeu between 2013 and 2015, has two years remaining on his contract in the Spanish capital.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the potential arrival of Isco next year, Phillips said:“If Isco is going to come to the club he will not be coming to sit on the bench.

“He will want to play and I am sure Ancelotti will have that in his mind. I do not know where he would slot in but to be linked with a player like that is fantastic.

“He would be another top-class signing for Everton.

“They are having a tough run at the moment so strengthening in January with a couple of players of Isco’s quality would help them finish in that top-five, top-four come the end of the season.”
