Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa

Kevin Phillips has claimed Marcelo Bielsa will have been instrumental in Stuart Dallas’ transformation into the new James Milner at Leeds United this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England striker explained how the Argentine’s man-management of the Northern Ireland international has taken him to new heights.

Dallas was a fringe figure at Leeds in Bielsa’s first season, when he started just 10 of their Championship matches.

But he has started all 27 of United’s league fixtures in this campaign, slotting into both full-back positions and various midfield roles.

Asked by Football Insider for his verdict on Dallas, Phillips said: “Sometimes, and I’ve been there, when a manager believes in you, I would imagine Bielsa’s talking to him, making him believe that he’s one of the best players in the league.

“He’s been around a while Stuart Dallas and he’s a versatile player, he can play in many positions and that’s a great sort of player – look at James Milner at Liverpool, he’s like the James Milner of Leeds, he can play here, there and everywhere.

“His experience as well will certainly help Leeds from now until the end of the season.”

Dallas began the season in defence, with Bielsa using him as an attacking full-back ahead of a number of proven teammates.

In the last four matches he has pushed forward into midfield and scored goals against Preston North End and Birmingham City.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that there has been a major development in the club’s pursuit of Jarrod Bowen.
