Jack Wilshere “is deep into negotiations” with Rangers over a potential move to Ibrox, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant that the “fantastic” 28-year-old would “dominate” the Scottish Premiership if given the chance.
The 28-year-old left West Ham on Monday after his contract was mutually terminated and is now free to sign for a club despite the international transfer window closing.
The former Arsenal playmaker played alongside Teddy Bears boss Steven Gerrard at international level as well as against him in the Premier League.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Wilshere’s situation, Phillips said:
“I understand Wilshere is deep into negotiations with Rangers.
“I think that move would suit him down to the ground. I think it would be a breeze in that league for him.
“I am big fan of Jack Wilshere. When he is fit and is travelling with the ball, there are not many better. A tremendous left foot and he can ghost past people.
“If he can stay fit, he would dominate in that league. It would definitely be a fantastic signing for Rangers.”
Speaking on his future this week, Wilshere told talkSPORT: “I think I want to try something different – I am leaning towards that. Maybe LaLiga, Italy, something a little bit different that not many English players have done.
“At the same time, I am probably going to take a week or two to decide.”
