Phillips: Hume will pen new Sunderland deal after major update
Denver Hume will put pen to paper on a new contract at Sunderland.
That is the view of Stadium of Light legend Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 22-year-old’s future following an update from sporting director Kristjaan Speakman on the issue.
Hume‘s contract on Wearside expired at the end of the 2020-21 campaign and discussions regarding a new agreement have been ongoing since.
Speakman told the Sunderland Echo (August 3rd) that the club have made the left-back “a really, really good offer” and are awaiting the his decision.
A product of the Black Cats’ academy, Hume is currently sidelined through injury which means there is no huge timeline pressure on a deal.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Phillips said: “There is a little bit of leeway with him being injured.

“I’m sure all parties want to make sure the deal is right for them and that is why it is perhaps taking a bit longer.
“The deal will get done, I’m sure of that. I think at this stage they are probably just talking about daft bits and bobs which generally happens at that kind of level.
“I’m very confident that it will get done and if they can come to an agreement, Sunderland have got themselves a brilliant left-back who will give his all every time he puts on the shirt.”
