Phillips: Kane's 'mind is made up' on Tottenham exit U-turn after update via Sky

Kevin Phillips has claimed not even a manager of Antonio Conte’s calibre could persuade Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker is adamant the 27-year-old will push to leave the London club this summer regardless of what happens because his “mind is made up”.

Spurs are still in the search for a new manager nearly two months on from Jose Mourinho’s dismissal.

As reported by Sky Sports, Spurs called off their plans to appoint Antonio Conte on Saturday after the two parties failed to reach an agreement after extensive talks.

This site revealed on 9 April that Harry Kane told his friends he wants to leave Tottenham this summer.

When asked by Football Insider if a manager of Conte’s ilk could persuade Kane into staying, Phillips said: “In my honest opinion, no.

“I do not think Conte would have even been capable of keeping him. I’m not sure any manager can.

“His mind is made up. He wants to move on and he wants to win trophies.

“I cannot see Spurs winning trophies next season. Even if a manager of Conte’s calibre came in it would take at least year to get the players he wants and to get then playing how they want and it would be another season gone by for Kane.

“I know he loves the football club but I feel like his mind is made up now and he wants to go.”
