Phillips: Newcastle takeover is 'great news' for Sunderland after Sky reveal - Phillips
Kevin Phillips is adamant “there will be positives” from Newcastle United’s takeover for Sunderland.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Stadium of Light legend claimed the £305million deal will inspire Black Cats owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus while also bringing investment into the north east as a region.
The Premier League ratified the PIF-backed takeover of the Magpies on Thursday.
Amanda Staveley revealed to Sky Sports the consortium plan to invest in the club both on and off the pitch.
Sunderland and Newcastle have now both been taken over by billionaires in 2021.
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus took over at the Stadium of Light in February.

When asked by Football Insider if the Newcastle takeover could be good news for Sunderland, Phillips said:
“I think there will definitely be positives to come out of it for Sunderland as well. It is great news because it will bring investment into the north east. Look,
“Sunderland have their own troubles to worry about. They need to get out of League One.
“If Newcastle enjoy success under these new owners it will inspire Louie-Dreyfus. The new owner at Sunderland is ambitious and is already doing great things there. I’m sure he will look up the road at Newcastle and be encouraged by the scenes there.
“You could see the passion of the fans outside St. James’ Park the other night. It summed up the north east and the passion the people there have for their football clubs.
“The Premier League is a million miles away from Sunderland right now but Newcastle’s takeover can only be positive. It benefits the north east in general.”
