Phillips predicts Rangers could sell Morelos on deadline day as 'big bid' mooted

Kevin Phillips claims Alfredo Morelos could leave Rangers on deadline day after a summer of speculation.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was reacting to the latest reports on the striker’s future.

On 26th June, Football Insider revealed Rangers have told Porto that they want £13million for their star striker this summer.

However, on 18th July, the Daily Record reported Morelos has not asked for a transfer or indicated he wants to leave Ibrox.

The Colombian has a contract with Rangers that runs until 2023 and talks over an extension have failed to get off the ground this year.

Morelos has been continuously linked with a move away from Rangers since he joined the club and he came close to joining Lille last summer.

When aked if Rangers could force Morelos to leave if a big bid comes in, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “Possibly.

“I just don’t see where that big bid is coming from. It could come on that last day from a foreign team.

“That’s when things get hectic and it really wouldn’t surprise me.

“We’ve seen it happen before but if he says he wants to stay, as a manager you have to respect that.

“I don’t know what he’s like but it seems as though he and Gerrard get on.

“What a boost it would be to have that scorer with you next season.”

The summer transfer window will end at 11pm on Tuesday August 31.

The Gers have already secured the signings of Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram this summer.
